Mysteries are found in most of the familiar things
I like the idea that a photo could show something that is familiar to us in a different way. I am not looking for a strict representation of reality because I want to express what I feel. Photographing for me is like an obsession to record more what my mind sees than what my eye sees. The search for this type of photography I have acquired it intuitively since my teenage years but it has been when I retired that I decided to devote myself to developing this vision.
If I had to find an axis in my own photographic work I would call it : « The search for the strength of simplicity ».
J’aime l’idée qu’une photo puisse montrer quelque chose de familier sous un angle différent. Je ne recherche pas une représentation fidèle de la réalité, car je souhaite exprimer ce que je ressens. Photographier est pour moi une sorte d’obsession, un désir de saisir davantage ce que mon esprit perçoit que ce que mes yeux voient. Cette recherche de la photographie s’est faite intuitivement depuis l’adolescence, mais c’est à la retraite que j’ai décidé de me consacrer pleinement à son développement.
S’il fallait définir un axe dans mon travail photographique, je l’appellerais : « La recherche de la force dans la simplicité ».
Share the meaning of life and the inevitability of death
Photographing helps me ask questions about the visible world and express my ideas about the passage of time and the inevitability of death. I find myself in another space-time when I take photographs. A photograph haunts us not only because of its composition or lighting or content, but also because of the tension between life and death, beauty and decay, artifice and reality.
I like to photograph nature, trees, sand and people, … but also cemeteries. Why cemeteries? For the calm, for the purity of the forms. I do not try to express the sadness but rather the feeling that one experiences in these places to approach this strange limit between life and death. I don’t like artificial arrangements or special effects that transform reality. I prefer to create a loss of reference points to alter the relationship with reality and to appeal to the imagination.
La photographie m’aide à questionner le monde visible et à exprimer mes réflexions sur le passage du temps et l’inéluctabilité de la mort. Lorsque je prends des photos, je me retrouve transporté dans un autre espace-temps. Une photographie nous hante non seulement par sa composition, sa lumière ou son contenu, mais aussi par la tension qui se dégage entre la vie et la mort, la beauté et la décomposition, l’artifice et la réalité.
J’aime photographier la nature, les arbres, le sable et les gens… mais aussi les cimetières. Pourquoi les cimetières ? Pour le calme, pour la pureté des formes. Je ne cherche pas à exprimer la tristesse, mais plutôt le sentiment que l’on éprouve dans ces lieux, face à cette étrange frontière entre la vie et la mort. Je n’aime pas les aménagements artificiels ni les effets spéciaux qui transforment la réalité. Je préfère créer une perte de repères pour modifier notre rapport au réel et faire appel à l’imagination.
